About Us -
The town treasurer is keeper of the town’s financial accounts. The treasurer invests town money, keeps a record of taxes voted, and pays bills when orders to do so are properly submitted. The treasurer interacts with other town officials to ensure that the town finances run smoothly and is responsible for all funds collected, allocated to and disbursed by the various departments and entities that exist within the municipality. Current tax collection, current payroll and employee benefits are also administered through this office.
The accounting firm of Sullivan and Powers audits the town financials each year. The Town Of Thetford is compliant with the requirements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

Late Homestead Filing Penalty
(Summarized from 32 VSA section 5410(j))
A taxpayer may appeal an assessment of the Late Filed Homestead penalty within 14 days after the date
of mailing of notice of the penalty. Further appeal from the listers is to the Board of Civil Authority and
thereafter to the courts. The Selectboard shall have authority in cases of hardship to abate all or any
portion of a Late Filed Homestead penalty appealable to the listers under this section and any tax, penalty,
and interest arising out of a corrected property classification under this section; and shall state in detail
in writing the reasons for its grant or denial of the requested abatement. Requests for this waiver shall
be made to the municipal treasurer (collector of current taxes), and that person shall forward all requests,
with his or her recommendation, to the board of Listers.
